One would imagine the Beltane Fire Society will be holding this festival again in 2006. During the rituals, the element of fire is mainly used to symbolise cleansing and the warmth of the sun at spring. Fire with its raw, feral nature shows the power and danger of fire and the sun, the source of all life. The role of fire is one of chaos joined with order.

Fire Dance FestivalAug 11-16, 2006, Fire Dance Festival ~ Santa Cruz, California

A magical celebration of drum, dance and song. An intentional community in the beautiful Santa Cruz, California Mountains amongst the Redwoods. This year the festival will be taking a bit of a breather to recollect, and will be back in 2006.

SpiritFire FestivalJuly 5-9, 2006, SpiritFire Festival ~ New Lebanon, New York

A five-day festival retreat, celebrating life and spirit through the pathways of music, movement, voice, and the Mysteries. Workshops for all levels on drumming, dance, didgeredoo, vocal improvisation and more. Two community circles each night: evening jams honoring different music and movement traditions, fire spinning, and then midnight-to-dawn fire circle rituals.

A gathering for people into intentional community building, non-violence, and alternative lifestyles. Many of their traditions are based on Native American traditions, and they have a strong orientation to take care of the Earth.

Advanced Hanging OutJuly 1-4, 2006, Advanced Hanging Out ~ Upstate New York

Join Earth Drum Council and Friends for a relaxed weekend in the beautiful mountains of upstate New York. The whole point of this event is to hang out: to gather in community, connect with each other, and drum and dance around the fire together at night. That's it. No workshops. No vendors. Revel in the joy and magic of drumming, dancing, chanting, and creating sacred sounds and spontaneous ceremony throughout the night. Co-create four fire circles; two all-night outdoor fires and two shorter fires in our lodge-size tipi for sharing our magic in a more intimate setting. Daytimes will be spent relaxing and delighting in the workshop offerings of our community.

Up Helly AaJanuary 24, 2006, Up Helly Aa ~ Lerwick, Shetland

Up Helly Aa is held on the last Tuesday of January (Old Yule) in Lerwick, Shetland. This dramatic fire festival developed from an earlier Shetland tradition of "guizing", or dressing up. Originally straw was used, and the "skekklers" traditionally went around the local houses in the countryside at Yule.
